Endure and Survive

The Last of Us Part I is a 2022 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. A remake of the 2013 game The Last of Us, it features revised gameplay, including enhanced combat and exploration, and expanded accessibility options. Players control Joel, who is tasked with escorting the young Ellie across a post-apocalyptic United States and defend her against cannibalistic creatures infected by a mutated strain of the Cordyceps fungus.

Role Contributions

I was the main UI Designer tasked to faithfully adapt The Last of Us user experience for Playstation 5 and PC. Some of my responsibilities include modernizing the HUDs, improving player controls and expanding accessibility options. 

Matching Part II’s Bar

It is important to match the UI/UX bar of The Last of Us Part II for a seamless gameplay experience. This include updating all raster graphics to vector assets, bringing over the workbench, adapting the player progression interface, adding customization menus, etc.

New Photo Mode

Inspired by thousands of beautiful snapshots from Part II, our team was motivated to add more “Pro” photography options for Part I. While we were not able to add every feature; the cinematic spotlight controls, hue picker, filters and more were huge wins. Expanded Accessibility

Bringing Part I to PC meant we had to add keybind customization options and icons for keyboard/mouse, Xbox, or other 3rd party controllers. I redesigned the customize control menus to support different playstyles and help disabled users feel confident and comfortable throughout their playthroughs.

Bonus Content

For the fans, we added new UI for directors commentary, podcasts, speed run modes, permadeath modes, gameplay mods, and etc.
